Back in January I mentioned two of my top picks that were slated for release in 2013. If you’ll remember in that Shoe Game post from January, I cited the “Squadron Blue” 13’s and the “Toro Bravo” 4’s as my two picks out of everything I had seen thus far. The 13’s were an easy and for sure cop for me back in March. While these were given an initial late October release date, they were pushed up as a mid-summer release for July. Here are the “Toro Bravo” 4’s I’ve been waiting for.
Shoe: Air Jordan 4 (Retro) “Toro Bravo”
Release: 7/13/2013 (Available Now)
Product Code: 308497-603
Colorway: Fire Red/White-Black-Cement Grey
This pair of Jordan Retro’s has had a slew of nicknames since we first heard they’d be releasing this year. “Red Suede”, “Toro Suede”, even another “Fire Red” nickname was tossed at these by Nike. Of course the “Toro Bravo” name has been very prevalent around the web… and it looks like the one that has stuck is the latter. The official colorway includes Fire Red, which we’ve seen on a countless number of Air Jordan Retros. This pair however takes Fire Red to the next level.
Jordan brand decided to douse this shoe in it. Everywhere you look, there’s red — hence the emphasis on red in the various nicknames. The majority of the upper is done on that vibrant shade of red. The nubuck wrapping as well as the classic Retro 4 netting are all done in Fire Red.
The mesh underneath the netting and the rear “duck” pull tab are all done in done in black. The rear design is also done in black, with a white Jumpman. The Cement Grey on this pair has been carefully placed into the shoes’ design. The lace holders and the tongue design are both done in the same grey. The majority of the sole is done in Cement Grey. It also includes black inserts surrounding a Fire Red Jumpman.
What you won’t be able to grasp from seeing images of these is the sheer brightness of the red that’s dons this pair of Air Jordan’s. The term ‘Fire’ doesn’t begin to describe the boldness of color on these kicks. We saw an all red variant of the Air Jordan Spiz’ike release back in October of last year, however the official red on that pair was “Gym Red”. We’ve seen this hue, Fire Red on Jordan brand kicks before, but usually only as a detail (e.g.: stitching or sole design, etc.). I don’t think we’ve ever seen the majority of a pair done in this vibrant flavor of red before.
Sneaker shops across the country were buzzing Saturday the 13th when these came out, and the Nike online Store sold out within an hour of launch. I was able to get a pair from the online Nike Store, but these did indeed sellout on Nike’s site, as well as Foot Locker’s, and its other online storefronts like Champs Sports. This was a pair I had been anxiously waiting on for a while, and fortunately their release date was pushed up. This was probably a cop for most Jordan sneakerheads, and it’s a definite cop for Retro 4 fans.
